Property Overview

Millungera Station is located in the Australian state of Queensland, renowned as the region in Australia for breeding and growing beef cattle on a large scale. The station covers 342,000 Ha and specialises in breeding and growing cattle and is on one land parcel.

Location & Access

The property is approximately 130 km north of Julia Creek and is accessible via Taldora Rd that cuts through the western side of Millungera from south to north and provides sealed road access to Julia Creek.

The Millungera homestead complex is situated 600 metres off the Taldora road. Internal roads consist of formed earth and gravel giving dry weather access throughout most of the property.

Land Types

The property comprises a roughly “diamond” shaped land area formed by a combination of the geographic features. The property is approximately 113km north to south and 106 km east to west at its outermost boundaries.

The station is bound by the Flinders river on the south western boundary, severed by the Saxby River in the southern part and drained to the north by a number of creeks in the northern part of the property. The country types consist of a mixture ranging from good river frontages, open Mitchell grass downs, soft forest, and small areas of Gidgee.

  • Open to shaded black soil downs, very lightly timbered with scattered Whitewood. Heavily grassed with Mitchell, Flinders, Bluegrass and herbages in season.

    130,000 Ha - 38%

  • Sandy forest with areas of black soil plains, areas of Gidgee scrub and better quality forest. Timbers include principally Bauhinia and Beefwood. Grasses include black and white spear, kerosene and wire grasses. Some Buffel grass has also spread throughout parts of this country.

    168,000 Ha - 49%

  • Timbered Gidgee country on heavy grey/black clay soils. The country is broken in areas with some Bauhinia and open areas.

    18,000 Ha - 5%

  • River frontages and channels to Flinders and Saxby rivers.

    26,000 Ha - 8%

There are an abundance of natural and artesian water supplies across the property for livestock grazing.

Natural supplies

There are a number of natural waterholes available in the Flinders and Saxby rivers and also other small creeks on the property. Some of the waterholes within the river systems are permanent.

Artesian water supplies

The property is primarily watered with an extensive water infrastructure, consisting of troughs, polypipes, dams and bore drains.
